Compact Digital PV Servo Systems with SERCOS

The Sanyo Denki PV Servo Systems with SERCOS are fully-digital, extremely compact and offer both high-performance and a rich set of features. The only connection from the controller to the PV Series drives is the SERCOS fiber optic cable. The ac servo drives have complete built-in functionality including high-speed registration inputs, dynamic braking and handling of regenerative energy. Extra regeneration energy handling capability can be added to each PV Series servo drive with standard external regeneration resistors.  All drive parameters can be accessed with control software using the SERCOS identification numbers (IDN’s). Standard cables for motor power and encoder feedback are available that have all the necessary connections made on both ends of the cables. There is also an optional breakout board with screw terminals and a connection cable to facilitate the I/O connections to the servo drive.

A total of 7 compact PV system combinations are currently available:

Low Inertia:

100W 400W 750W 1500W

Medium Inertia:

200W 1000W 1500W

All the motors operate to a maximum speed of 4500 r.p.m. except the medium inertia 1500W (P6) motor which has a max speed of 3000 r.p.m..  All motors have a built-in 2000 line (8000 count per revolution) encoder and optional 24 VDC spring-set holding brakes.

The PV Servo System with SERCOS is a digital solution with fine interpolation, position loop, velocity loop, and current loop within the drive. The SERCOS interface is designed to communicate real-time control data for high performance motion control. For example, each position command in a 16-axis control system can be updated 500 times in one second using SERCOS (at 4 Mbits/sec data rate). However, the position command update time should not be confused with the servo loop update rates. The PV Series servo drive internally extrapolates the position command and updates the position loop 4,000 times each second. The velocity loop is also updated 4,000 times each second while the current loop is updated 16,000 times each second!

Sanyo Denki SERCOS compatible servo systems are suitable for a broad range of applications including: Packaging, Converting, Winding, Injection Molding, Printing, Metal Forming, Material Handling, Web Handling, and most other types of general purpose industrial machine control.

PV Drive with SERCOS Overview

The PV drive family includes models rated at 15, 30, & 50 amps peak, and they operate from a single-phase 230 VAC input supply. All of the PV drives have uniform height & depth.   Built-in functions include dynamic braking, regenerative energy processing, registration inputs (which latch the motor position), and holding brake timing control. The PV drives are manufactured in an ISO-9001 facility and are CE marked.

The PV drives with SERCOS provide for the standard SERCOS Fiber Optic interface from a controller. The fully-digital PV drives with SERCOS have many programmable functions including auto-tuning, load vibration suppression, fault history, (6) digital inputs, and (2) digital outputs.  The PE Servo System with SERCOS Interface Installation and Operation Manual may be downloaded from our downloads section

Low Inertia P3 Motor Overview

The compact and low-inertia P3 brushless servo motors are available in three sizes: the 40mm square 100 watt size, the 60mm square 400 watt size, and the 80mm square 750 watt size. All of the P3 motors can operate to 4500 r.p.m., include a built-in 2000 line "wire-saving" optical encoder, and have optional 24 VDC spring-set holding brakes. The P3 motors have connectorized leadwires and an IP-43 environmental rating.

The P3 motors have a unique magnetic design and very efficient thermal management that results in motors that are about one-half the volume of conventional motors. The compact size and low-inertia of these motors make them ideal for applications requiring fast response.

Low Inertia P2 Motor Overview

The compact and low-inertia P2 brushless servo motors are available in four sizes. The 100mm square frame is available in a 1.5kW size for use with the 50 amp PV drive.  Additional sizes of the P2 motor are available (up to 5kW) for use with the standard size PE series drives.   All of the P2 motors operate to 4500 r.p.m., include a built-in 2000 line "wire-saving" optical encoder, and have optional 24 VDC spring-set holding brakes. The P2 motors have water-tight connectors, shaft seals, and sport an IP-67 environmental rating.

The P2 motors have a special design that results in about a 40% size reduction over conventional designs. The P2 motors are ideal for high response control of low-inertia loads.

Medium Inertia P5 Motor Overview

The compact and medium-inertia P5 brushless servo motors are available in two sizes: the 200 watt size with NEMA 23 mounting and the 1kW size with NEMA 34 mounting. All P5 motors can operate to 4500 r.p.m., include a built-in 2000 line "wire-saving" optical encoder, and have optional 24 VDC spring-set holding brakes. The P5 motors have connectorized leadwires, shaft seals, and an IP-55 environmental rating.

The P5 motors have a unique magnetic design and very efficient thermal management that results in motors that are about 70% smaller than conventional designs. The compact size, medium-inertia, and NEMA mounting flanges make these motors ideal for applications with higher load inertia and standard response.

Medium Inertia P6 Motor Overview

The compact and medium-inertia P6 brushless servo motor is available with 130mm square frame and 1.5kW rating. The P6 motor operates to 3000 r.p.m., includes a built-in 2000 line "wire-saving" optical encoder, and has an optional 24 VDC spring-set holding brake. The P6 motor has watertight connectors, shaft seal, and sports an IP-67 environmental rating.

The P6 motor has a special design that results in a 50% size reduction over conventional designs. The P6 motor is ideal for applications that direct drive higher load inertia and have standard response.

Accessories

Breakout Terminal Board & Interface Cable

Another very useful accessory is the Breakout Screw Terminal Board and interface cable to the CN1 connector on the drive. This accessory makes all the I/O signals from CN1 available for user connection at the screw terminal board. There is a 10 foot limit on the length of the interface cable. This breakout board and interface cable should be contained within your control cabinet. Please consider this accessory to make your interface connections to the drive easy and trouble-free.

The handheld remote operator and 2 meter connection cable are common to the PE, PV, and PY servo drives. The remote operator is used for setting the servo drive parameters and for checking the internal status of the servo drive.

The easy-to-use remote operator has a 2 x 16 character LCD display. Each character is a 5 x 7 dot matrix. This allows for a more complete message display than the typical 8 character display provided by the competition. The compact remote operator is easy for anyone to use and is an excellent tool for the factory floor. One remote operator can be used for multiple servo drives because it is completely independent of the drive and can be quickly attached and removed as required.

The Remote Operator has four modes: parameter mode, monitor mode, alarm tracing mode, and test mode. Five test points are also available on the bottom of the remote operator: speed command, alarm status, motor excitation status, and two programmable test points - M1 & M2 (which allow the monitoring of additional drive signals).

Cables

The most common cause of start-up problems is faulty cabling. This is why we offer and require factory tested and fully terminated cables for all connections between the drive and motor. We offer motor power cables and motor feedback cables in several standard lengths. We also offer custom cable lengths in one foot increments at the same price per foot as standard length cables.

Fiber Optic Cables

Fiber optic SERCOS cables are available in plastic and glass for use inside and outside a control cabinet. Plastic fiber optic cables are available in several standard lengths but we also offer custom cable lengths in one-foot increments at the same cost per foot as standard length cables (custom length fiber cables do have an extra set-up fee; contact us for details).
