Sanyo Denki Stepping Systems Overview

These stepping systems accept a position command in "pulse & direction" or "clockwise/counterclockwise" format. The resolution can be set for 200, 400, 800, or 1600 pulses per revolutionComplete configuration of the driver is accomplished with one 5-position dip switch. Standard cables for DC input power, user interface (I/O), and motor power are available. The system block diagram is shown above that details the drive and motor connections.

Three standard system combinations are available from stock.  Holding torque ranges from 0.83 Nm (7.3 lb-in) to 4.13 Nm (36.5 lb-in).

Sanyo Denki stepping systems are suitable for a broad range of applications including: X-Y Tables, Robotics, Specialty Machinery, Actuators, Indexing, & Labeling.  In general, look for applications where the low cost yet moderate performance of a stepping system is adequate.

Feature

Benefit

Pulse Input

The stepping drive can be user configured for position command signals as "step & direction" or "CW/CCW" which allows use of an existing indexer or motion controller.

Adjustable Resolution

The step angle to be set to 200, 400, 800, and 1600 pulses/revolution via dip switches. The possible speed ranges given these four step angles and the 20KHz maximum pulse frequency are shown below.

Automatic Current Down

"Automatic Current Down" mode may be selected so that current is reduced to 50% of normal value about 200 msec after the final pulse is applied. This can result in reduced motor heating for some applications.

Power Down Input

A digital input is available to disable current to the motor.

Configuration

The stepping drive is completely configured using a 5-position dip switch. One switch is used to set automatic current down mode, another switch is used to set pulse input type, and three switches are used to set the step angle.

Phase Origin Monitor

This output is ON when the excitation pattern is at the origin. In full step mode the output is ON every 4 pulses and in half step mode the output is ON every 8 pulses.

The PMM-MD-23220-10 is a unipolar microstepping drive that operates from a 24 to 36 VDC input power supply. Operating current level is factory configured at 2A/phase. Step angles may be set for 200, 400, 800, or 1600 steps/revolution.

The PMM-MD-23220-10 stepping drive accepts "pulse and direction" or "clockwise/counterclockwise" interface signals. The drive is easily configured with a 5-position dip switch, has an input for "power down", and an output for "origin of excitation sequence".
